Chief Financial Officer Kym Kisser and Case Management Administrator Lynelle Peasall-Gauld take their children (Layla & Chevelle) annually on a road trip to the NubAbility Athletics Camp. The 14th annual NubAbility Athletics All Sports Camp is held every year in Duquoin, Illinois. Lynelle’s daughter, Chevelle (her limb-different athlete), has attended since she was four years old with the 2026 camp being her sixth year attending this event. Her cousin Layla, Kym’s daughter, has joined her for the last four of those six years.

“Chevelle is a very shy child, and her cousin Layla comes out to support her… it also helps that they are besties and love getting to spend time together,” Lynelle said. “They look forward to their time together every year at camp. I also look forward to my time with my cousin Kym too! I love that Kym plans on this trip to Illinois every summer as well as it means a lot to Chevelle and I and our family!”

NubAbility is an organization that helps provide tips and techniques for limb-different athletes to be able to participate in mainstream school or community athletics programs. They don’t change the sport for youth athletes; they empower their campers so they can conquer the sport.

What is the NubAbility Athletics All Sports Camp?

The organization provides a total of 22 different sports throughout the year, which are all taught by limb-different coaches. All Sports camp is the nation’s largest gathering of limb-different athletes and coaches during this four-day camp that provides instruction in 19 sports.

More than 150 limb-different athletes and 80 limb-different coaches attend to mentor and teach the participants. They can explore new sports, sharpen their skills and build confidence alongside coaches who look like them and understand their journey.

Lynelle explained that the NubAbility Camp starts with children at age 4. Young campers try all 19 sports to see what interests them. As they get older, they get to choose a focus sport.

“Chevelle and Layla have chosen golf as a focus sport – last year was softball, and this year they tried tennis. They are amazing at all three sports by the way! 😊,” she added. “Peek at the pic of the first camp Layla attended with Chevelle at the tennis court and this year’s pic. These girls are growing too fast on us!”

This year in addition to their many sessions in tennis instruction, the girls also played and received a lesson in golf, volleyball, softball, soccer, swimming and jumping off the high diving board, did water sports (which included tubing, paddleboarding and knee boarding) and tried some track and field.

“It is a nonstop, four-day event, but time flies when the girls are having so much fun,” Lynelle added. “I love this camp, and love that there are organizations out there for children like my daughter. My wish is to get the word out so that even more kids like her can experience a camp like this. At NubAbility, they thrive on the involvement and contributions of the community.”

Kym echoes the same sentiment for her cousin as the road trip to the NubAbility camp has strengthened the family bond between all of them.

“Layla and I love supporting Chevelle and Lynelle and watching our girls grow up together,” Kym added. “This event is something we plan to do every single year as all of us enjoy the camp. I know Layla loves spending time with her cousin, and having Layla there also helps Chevelle – as she has someone very familiar to talk with at the camp.”
