Life Insurance: Planning on What Will Happen vs. May Happen

About 50% of Americans are covered by life insurance. However, 41 or so million Americans know they need life insurance but have no life insurance coverage.

In large part, the non-purchase frequently begins with the misunderstanding that life insurance is very expensive. For some, unfortunately, that may be the case, but you may want to know that a healthy male, age 45, can purchase $100,000 of 10-year term coverage, coverage that would pay the beneficiary $100,000 of income tax-free life insurance, for as little as $11 a month. Likewise, a $100,000 policy for the same age female could be as little as $10 a month.

We buy car insurance, home insurance, and insure many other things against financial losses that may happen. Life insurance replaces the economic loss of a loss that will happen. When it does, life insurance can help pay the mortgage, educate the kids, supplement retirement, and pay the ongoing expenses.

COVID-19 has resulted in the unexpected death of hundreds of thousands of Americans, and life insurance sales have increased by double digits. So, it seems a good move to purchase life insurance to protect against what will happen.
